The downside of many books on woodworking is that they concentrate on technique more than the actual tools but this book by Peter Korn is quite different. It tells you which tools to buy and even mentions internet mailing lists and newsgroups for woodworking and tools that may be a little dated considering the book was written 1998.
Some of the tools and techniques are obviously obsolete given the development of power tools, but read on. You will be a better craftsman for it. The illustrations in the book are clear and well thought out and it covers many tools that don’t usually come with a manual like file, rasp, chisel etc. An excellent introductory book for someone new to woodworking, or some one new to hand tools, especially recommended for knowing and working with hand tools before graduating to power tools. |
